Peers back down from votes at 16 argument

PEERS backed down from their clash with the Commons over lowering the voting age for the EU referendum yesterday.

An opposition bid to give registered 16 and 17-year-olds a vote was rejected by 263 votes to 246.

The vote prevents a fresh constitutional clash between MPs and peers and a further bout of “parliamentary ping-pong” over the European Union Referendum Bill.
