McDonnell unveils local bank boost

LABOUR has pledged to prevent the closure of high street banks to protect the local communities and small businesses that rely on them, the party announced yesterday.

Under a Labour government major changes to banking law would stop banks from shutting down more branches.

Some 1,046 local bank branches closed between December 2015 and January this year, with another 486 already scheduled to shut down this year.
