JOHN McDONNELL has pledged investment in northern England’s infrastructure that will create 850,000 jobs.
The shadow chancellor revealed on Saturday that a future Labour government would deliver a “Crossrail for the north” reversing “decades of underinvestment in northern transport infrastructure that has undermined the economic potential of the north of England.”
He accused the government of failing to invest in essential electrification of key northern rail services, including the Trans-Pennine line, which is not now due for completion before 2022.
