Olympian Mo Farah slammed United States President Donald Trump’s disgusting Muslim travel ban yesterday, saying that it “seems to have made me an alien.”
President Trump issued an executive order over the weekend banning individuals born in Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the US, along with refugees.
Farah and his family have been based in the United States for the last six years and his family are there currently while he trains in Ethiopia. “On January 1 this year, the Queen made me a Knight of the Realm.
On January 27, president Donald Trump seems to have made me an alien,” he wrote on Facebook.
“I am a British citizen who has lived in the United States for the past six years — working hard, contributing to society, paying my taxes and bringing up our four children in the place they now call home.
“Now, me and many others like me are being told that we may not be welcome.
“It’s deeply troubling that I will have to tell my children that daddy might not be able to come home — to explain why the president has introduced a policy that comes from a place of ignorance and prejudice.
“I was welcomed into Britain from Somalia at eight years old and given the chance to succeed and realise my dreams. I have been proud to represent my country, win medals for the British people and receive the greatest honour of a knighthood. My story is an example of what can happen when you follow policies of compassion and understanding, not hate and isolation.”
United States national football team captain Michael Bradley also expressed his disgust, calling it “the latest example of someone who couldn’t be more out of touch with our country and the right way to move forward.”
Bradley admitted that the response he gave was “too soft” so took to social media to express his outrage. “A few hours ago I gave an interview to Grant Wahl,” he said.
“After 15 minutes of an interview that was centred around soccer and our national team, he asked me about my thoughts on President Trump’s ban of Muslims.
“A very fair question. But one that caught me totally off guard. Uncomfortable giving such strong thoughts without really being able to think them through, I gave an answer where I tried to make it clear that while I understand the need for safety, the values and ideals of our country should never be sacrificed.
“I believe what I said but it was too soft. The part I left out is how sad and embarrassed I am.
“When Trump was elected, I only hoped that the President Trump would be different than the campaigner Trump.
“That the xenophobic, misogynistic and narcissistic rhetoric would be replaced with a more humble and measured approach to leading our country.
“I was wrong. And the Muslim ban is just the latest example of someone who couldn’t be more out of touch with our country and the right way to move forward.”
