EUROPEAN COUNCIL president Donald Tusk insisted yesterday that US Vice-President Mike Pence’s comments have reassured EU officials about the Trump administration’s stance toward the bloc.
Mr Tusk said that he and Mr Pence had held “open and frank talks” — which, in diplomacy-speak, usually signifies an unholy row — aimed in part at allaying concerns about President Donald Trump’s support for the EU and European security through Nato.
“I heard words which are promising for the future, words which explain a lot about the new approach in Washington,” he said.
