BA urged to settle dispute or face more strikes

BRITISH AIRWAYS was urged yesterday to settle its pay dispute with cabin crew or face four more days of strike action.

Union Unite called on the airline to enter talks at conciliation service Acas.

Mixed fleet cabin crew — whose basic salary starts at just £12,192 with £3 per hour flying pay — said they are prepared to strike from Friday 17 to Monday February 20.

Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said: “BA should focus on addressing poverty pay in its mixed fleet, rather than continuing to waste hundreds of thousands of pounds on chartering in aircraft to cover striking workers.

“Despite the bully-boy tactics, the threats and the sanctions, our members in British Airways mixed fleet have continued to show great resolve in their fight for better pay.”

The announcement coincided with the penultimate day of a three-day strike finishing today. Cabin crew also walked out for three days last week.
