Britain’s poorest schools hit with the hardest cuts

BRITAIN’S poorest schools are taking the lion’s share of government cuts, research by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Child Poverty Action Group revealed yesterday.

The country’s 1,000 schools with the highest number of children receiving free school meals are facing much higher cuts in funding per pupil than schools generally, the joint study revealed.

Primary schools with over 40 per cent of children on free school meals — an indicator of low income — will on average lose £473 per pupil in real terms, £140 more than the average for primary schools generally.
