MP resigns from post that ‘doesn’t exist’
Right-wing McGovern mocked for stunt

A DESPERATE Blairite MP made history yesterday by resigning from a non-existent job in protest at comments made by shadow chancellor John McDonnell.

Wirral South MP Alison McGovern, who chairs the Blairite Progress group, had been asked by Mr McDonnell to take part in a policy review into child poverty and combating inequality.

Yesterday she announced on TV that she had “resigned” from the position in protest at Mr McDonnell saying Progress had a “hard-right, conservative agenda” when questioned in a BBC interview. She said she had been “backed into a corner.”
