Aberdeen bus strike called off

AN INDEFINITE strike of Aberdeen bus drivers due to begin today has been called off.

At conciliation service Acas yesterday, union reps agreed to put a new proposal to members in a workplace ballot.

Workers at First Bus Aberdeen had voted to strike in a row over driving hours and the length of the working day.

Unite regional officer Willie Wallace said: “From the union’s point of view there has been a significant enough shift in the company’s position to justify putting the new offer to the First Bus drivers.

“Of course it will be for the members to decide whether they think the new offer has been sufficiently improved to justify accepting it.”

The union ballot will take place today and on Monday. If workers reject the proposal, indefinite strike action will take place from Wednesday April 11.
