Women's Football Arsenal bolster their squad with the signing of Denmark's Katrine Veje

ARSENAL made their first signing of the year today, adding the versatile Katrine Veje from Montepellier.

Capable of playing anywhere down the left flank, the Danish international will provide much needed cover as the club attempt to deal with a raft of injuries as they bid to win the Women’s Super League.

The 27-year-old was hailed as a “fantastic signing for us” by manager Joe Montemurro, who added: “She will bring experience and professionalism. She understands what it takes to win trophies and her variety of experience playing in different leagues around the world should help her adapt to the competitive standard of the WSL.”

With over 100 caps for Denmark and a host of winner’s medals from stints in Sweden, the United States and Denmark, Veje is relishing playing in the WSL, especially after taking on the Gunners in the Toulouse Cup — the Gunners won 2-1 thanks to goals from Vivianne Miedema and Danielle Van de Donk.

“Arsenal is a big club,” Veje told Arsenal Player. “Everyone knows the men’s team and now the women’s team are doing very well. I played against Arsenal in the Toulouse Cup with Montpellier and I really like the style of play and how they move for each other and the group, so I’m very happy to be here.

“English sides are very good. They have a special power and fight for each other, and I like that style of play. I’m very happy that I can understand everything now because it’s in English, so it’s pretty easy for me to get into the group and have conversations with the staff and so on, so I’m very happy to be in Arsenal.

“I heard a lot of good things about Joe and I’ve had a short conversation with him to just chat and I really like him. When I was in Seattle people were talking about him too because a lot of players go to Australia in the off season to play there, so I’m very happy to be here and have Joe as a coach.”

Arsenal are set to play West Ham in the first WSL game of the year on Sunday, where they currently sit atop of the table with a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.
