XR activists said they have ‘no choice’ but to cause disruption at Glasgow climate summit

EXTINCTION REBELLION activists said today that they have no choice but to cause disruption in Glasgow during November’s United Nations climate summit.

Thousands of demonstrators will congregate in the city next month as world leaders gather to discuss climate challenges at Cop26.

Activists from XR have said there will be targeted disruption, but that plans will not be revealed so police cannot combat it.

One anonymous rebel told Radio Clyde: “Disruption seems to be the only thing that really gets the government's attention because they really, really don’t like it.

“We tried petitions, we tried protest marches. We tried talking to MPs, we tried writing to MPs and MSPs. And it was always the same response: ‘Yeah, yeah; of course, yeah, we care — but basically, we’re not going to do anything about it.’

“That’s what we found. And because we care so much, we are willing to put ourselves on the line and be disruptive.”
