British Gas: ‘Dodgy’ legal advice blamed for provoking ongoing strikes, union says

BRITISH Gas must now take “fire and rehire” threats off the table after boss Chris O’Shea blamed “dodgy” legal advice for provoking ongoing strikes, the GMB union said today.  

Giving evidence before MPs in the business select committee, Mr O’Shea, head of British Gas owners Centrica, said that he “regretted” the company’s interpretation of the law which led to him to issue the controversial notices.

More than 170,000 homes are awaiting repairs after 12 days of walkouts as engineers fight attacks on pay and terms and conditions.
