Inspectors find worryingly high levels of violence at youth offenders institution
Accommodation block at Werrington Juvenile Centre

A YOUNG offender institution in Staffordshire continues to see high levels of violence, the prisons inspectorate has found, with several serious assaults taking place during the review.

Inspectors carried out a full inspection of Werrington in January, noting unacceptably high levels of violence and poor education and other activities for children.

In an interim review of progress in September, inspectors found an institution still struggling to manage behaviour and provide a purposeful regime for children, according to their report, which is published today.
