PEOPLE infected with Covid-19 but without symptoms will no longer need to confirm a positive lateral flow result with a PCR test, Tory ministers announced today.

The UK Health Security Agency welcomed the change by stressing that rapid tests are highly accurate, but the GMB union reacted with alarm, saying it is “undoubtedly a bad idea.”

The move comes as the omicron variant’s spread continues to put mounting pressure on the NHS, public transport and other essential services.
