A TORY MP alleged to have watched pornography in the Commons chamber was blasted today for being part of a culture of “sexism and misogyny.”
Allegations surfaced during a meeting of Tory MPs at Westminster on Monday that an as yet unnamed MP was watching pornography while sitting in the Commons chamber.
Veteran Labour MP Diane Abbott told the Star: “The idea that a Tory MP would actually sit in the chamber looking at porn on his mobile phone shows either stupidity, a sense of entitlement or a combination of both.
“I have been in Parliament for over 30 years and low-key racism and sexism have always been a feature. But more black and female MPs have made that type of behaviour less acceptable.”
The 2019 intake of women Labour MPs have also called out the culture of Parliament.
Labour’s Kate Osborne said: “This week has shown how rife sexism and misogyny is in Parliament.
“It’s gross misconduct and the Tory involved should be sacked.”
And Kim Johnson, Labour MP for Liverpool Riverside, likened the revelations to the “endemic racism in Parliament.”
She said: “Many around Parliament think all the black MPs look the same so they can’t even be bothered to get our names right.”
Tory chief whip Chris Heaton-Harris called for the case to be referred to Parliament’s Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme, which investigates allegations of harassment and sexual misconduct.
It could lead to the MP involved being forced to stand down from Parliament.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said there was “nothing wrong with the independent process, but I think the Tory Party, [if it knows] who this is, should take action now.”
