LABOUR deputy leader Angela Rayner was put through her paces reversing a heavy truck when she visited a centre which trains ex-army personnel to be heavy goods vehicle drivers.
Army heavy goods vehicle driving licences are not valid outside the military.
Former Royal Artillery Airborne Gunner Darren Wright founded the charity Veterans into Logistics and so far more than 200 ex-soldiers have been trained.
Ms Rayner, whose brother was a soldier, visited the training centre at Middleton in Greater Manchester.
The MP for Ashton under Lyne took part in a reversing contest driving a truck dedicated to Sergeant Jamie Doyle who served 22 years in the Royal Artillery but was found dead at home, unable to cope less than 12 months after leaving the British army.
Mr Wright said: “We would like to thank Angela for coming to see us today and supporting our mission to reduce unemployment and homelessness amongst the ex-military community.”
He said the MP was a “natural” at reversing.
