TRANSPORT union RMT has told MSPs that it intends to make the pay dispute at CalMac Ferries a major political issue in May’s Holyrood elections.
The union wrote to MSPs yesterday claiming that the ferry firm, which provides a lifeline service to Scotland’s islands, is holding an “unacceptable financial line, directed by the Scottish government and Transport Scotland.”
The union said it will continue to fight the paltry 0.5 per cent pay award — a real-terms pay cut — being offered to its members. And asking for MSPs’ backing in the dispute, the RMT said it will continue to raise the issue throughout the election campaign.
