STUC calls on government to intervene in dispute between operators and rail workers

General secretary Roz Foyer has said the government must step in to ensure ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper staff are offered a fair resolution

SCOTLAND’S most senior trade unionist has written to the Scottish government demanding it intervene in a dispute between franchise operators and rail workers.

STUC general secretary Roz Foyer has said the government must step in to ensure ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper staff are offered a fair resolution.

RMT members across Scotland have taken strike action in multiple disputes in recent months, with concerns over pay justice and a lack of financial offers from operators Abellio and Serco.

Ms Foyer has now said the government has a wider responsibility to oversee public transport management across Scotland, claiming ministers have thus far deferred to collective bargaining on both disputes.

“I am calling on you to intervene in both disputes as a matter of urgency to ensure fair and just resolutions to these disputes can be reached,” she said.

Transport Scotland told the Star there is no more money, with a spokeswoman adding the body fully appreciates the efforts of staff.

She urged all parties to make efforts to resolve these issues for the benefit of passengers and staff.
