Scottish Labour's Monica Lennon officially launches leadership campaign

The Central Scotland MSP pledges to continue the party’s progressive agenda

SCOTTISH Labour leadership candidate Monica Lennon has officially launched her campaign with a pledge to continue the party’s progressive agenda.

The Central Scotland MSP, who is seeking to succeed Richard Leonard as the party’s leader north of the border, held a live online campaign launch on Sunday night.

It featured endorsements from across the labour movement, with ex-MP Ged Killen, Unite’s Siobhan McCready, Holyrood candidate for Edinburgh Central Maddy Kirkman and North Ayrshire Council leader Joe Cullinane among those who gave their support.

Ms Lennon was described as the candidate with the “bold ideas” needed to transform Scottish Labour’s fortunes.

She said: “We will move forward with our progressive agenda for a people’s recovery which really takes on the big ills in our society — which [are] health and wealth inequality.

“We just want to make life better. We’re not in politics just to make speeches, just to share slogans: we care about solidarity, we care about other people.”
