Scottish students see rents soar while accommodation remains unfit, NUS warns

STUDENTS in Scotland have seen their rents soar by 34 per cent between 2018 and 2021 while their accommodation remains unfit for purpose, the National Union of Students (NUS) revealed.

The union said today that students had been forced to live in unsafe and unfinished buildings, could not find housing for months, could not access water for up to 96 hours, and had been forced to live in hostels or sleep on friends’ sofas.

One student told the NUS survey that without support from their family and part-time job, they would not be able to afford rent.
