SHEFFIELD’S five Labour Party constituencies have united in support of the people of Palestine.
They have pledged backing for Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine (SLFP) and will campaign alongside the South Yorkshire city’s Palestine Solidarity Campaign group.
The pledges came in motions carried at meetings of the five Constituency Labour Parties.
SLFP said in a statement: “In passing these motions, Sheffield Labour showed itself to be in step with the dramatic rise in awareness amongst a young generation about issues of social and political justice which draw parallels between Black Lives Matter and the fifty-four-year occupation of Palestine.
“Since the intensification of Israeli military and judicial operations to remove Palestinians from their legally owned homes in areas of East Jerusalem, our five Labour MPs, Clive Betts, Olivia Blake, Paul Blomfield, Gill Furniss and Louise Haigh, have co-operated to produce and co-sign two strongly worded letters of condemnation and calls for action to the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.”
