Starmer slammed for boasting about sacking Scottish Labour leader
Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer speaks to the media during a visit to Hartlepool, to take Labour's offer to the country ahead of the local elections on May 4. Picture date: Monday April 3, 2023.

SIR KEIR STARMER was slammed today for boasting about sacking former Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard as an example of his ruthlessness.

The Labour leader made the damaging comments in an interview with the Times newspaper, marking the third anniversary of being elected to the job.

Sir Keir chose to use the interview to talk about how “ruthless” he believed he had to be, saying: “We knew what we had to do with the general secretary” (Jennie Formby, who resigned in 2020 acknowledging she had originally accepted the role to “support Jeremy Corbyn who inspired so many people to get involved in politics”).
