Teacher welfare treated as collateral damage
91% of educators report their job has adversely impacted their mental health in the last year

TEACHER welfare is being treated as collateral damage, trade unionists warned today after more than nine in 10 staff canvassed reported deteriorating mental health.

A survey by the NASUWT teachers’ union found that 91 per cent of respondents consider their job has adversely affected their mental health in the last year.

Ministers, employers and inspectors are failing in their duty of care to teachers, the union charged, as excessive workloads and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has seen stress levels reach unprecedented heights.
