A WOMAN who was pushed to the ground and handcuffed by Metropolitan Police officers at last year’s Clapham Common vigil for Sarah Everard is threatening to sue the force.
Patsy Stevenson was among several mourners arrested at the event in south London in March 2021 after officers moved in to forcibly disperse crowds.
The vigil had been held to pay respects to Everard, who was abducted, raped and murdered by a serving Met police officer.
Images of male police officers manhandling Ms Stevenson and other young women sparked national anger and allegations of police brutality.
Now Ms Stevenson is set to sue the force, with her lawyers sending a pre-action letter to the Met on Friday.
The 29-year-old is seeking an apology, admission of liability from the Met that her human rights were breached and damages for false imprisonment and assault during her arrest.
She said she was launching the case because she believes that people who abuse their powers should be held to account and to give others the “courage to stand up for what they believe in.”
Ms Stevenson has launched a CrowdJustice page to raise £10,000 for her legal fees and any costs.
