UNITE is hosting a large community event in support of the Birmingham bin strikers in Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s constituency tomorrow.
Members of local mosques, community groups and local businesses in the city’s Ladywood area will come together to discuss the long-running dispute with the council.
Nine in 10 of more than 6,500 residents have agreed to display a bin sticker or poster in support of the bin workers after being contacted by the union, which has knocked on the doors of more than 16,000 homes in the city.
The bin workers have been on an all-out strike in March over plans to cut their pay by up to £10,000.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The support of the local community for bin workers is overwhelming.
“The council and local MPs need to wake up and realise residents are backing the workers. Return to negotiations and make a decent offer to workers.”
