THERE’S a dangerous disconnect between governments and citizens on climate change, UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres warned today — with governments stalling action their peoples demand.
Global greenhouse gas emissions need to drop by 45 per cent this decade, the UN chief said, but instead are due to rise by 14 per cent.
“We are witnessing a historic and dangerous disconnect: science and citizens are demanding ambitious and transformative climate action,” he told the Austrian World Summit, an annual forum held since 2017 in Vienna initiated by Austrian-born former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger.
