European Parliament calls for the postponement of the Venezuelan election

NEOLIBERAL forces rounded on Venezuela today as the European Parliament called for the May 20 presidential elections to be postponed.

MEPs voted 492-87, with 77 abstentions, for the immediate suspension of electoral preparations in the Latin American country.

Caracas had been anticipating the move after EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini warned Venezuela last month that Brussels is “ready to react through appropriate measures” to any decision it regards as undermining democracy in the country.
