FORMER Bolivian president Evo Morales will lead the Movement Towards Socialism (Mas) into next year’s local elections after he was appointed party leader at a national meeting on Tuesday.

Addressing to a press conference, Mr Morales said that the decision had been made by consensus and he “will actively assume the presidency of the most important political instrument of Bolivia.”

A mass meeting is to be held on Saturday with the participation of the Bolivian Confederation of Peasant Workers, the Federation of Municipal Associations and other organisations.
