Johannesburg to host International Dilemmas of Humanity Conference

DELEGATES will be heading for Johannesburg in South Africa in October for the third International Dilemmas of Humanity Conference, it was announced on Wednesday.

The conference, organised by the International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA) will run from October 14-18 and aims to “confront the crises of humanity” and highlight the solutions that movements, governments and working people are building together to overcome capitalism.

Palestinian freedom fighter Leila Khaled, Landless Rural Workers’ Movement of Brazil leader Joao Pedro Stedile and Communist Party of India (Marxist) economist Thomas Isaac will be among the prominent activists taking part in the conference.

Irvin Jim, secretary-general of the South African National Union of Mineworkers — a host organisation of the conference — said: “We have a historic duty to once more go all out in raising levels of consciousness, in learning from the working class, to trigger this consistent belief that another world is possible, and socialism is the future we must continue to build,” Mr Jim added.

The IPA is a unique internationalist coalition of over 200 people’s organisations, including social movements, political parties, trade unions and media platforms from around the world.
