Former Labour MP arrested during paedophile sting, months after being suspended from the party

A FORMER Labour MP has been arrested during a paedophile sting operation months after he was suspended from the party due to serious allegations.

Video footage posted on social media shows Ivor Caplin, a former MP for Hove and defence minister under Tony Blair, being handcuffed by police in Brighton.

In the video, the officer is heard telling him that he was arresting him to “protect a vulnerable person — namely a child.”

The former Jewish Labour Movement chairman was suspended from Labour in May last year over undisclosed “serious allegations” that he denies.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of footage circulating on social media showing a man in Brighton being detained on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

“Officers can confirm that a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday January 11 and currently remains in custody.

“This is an ongoing and active investigation.”

Mr Caplin is understood to have denied any wrongdoing.
