NEW polling shows Labour has narrowed the SNP lead for the next general election to five points.

The poll of Westminster voting intention, conducted by Redfield and Wilton Strategies between March 31 and April 1, shows the SNP falling by 3 percentage points to 36 per cent, while Labour have gained 2 points, rising to 31 per cent.

After over a decade of political dominance, where SNP support has rarely dipped below 40 per cent, and has on occasion broken the 50 per cent barrier, a string of recent polling has shown their support below 40 per cent.
