Palestine solidarity activists to participate in skycops probe

PALESTINE solidarity activists will be able to take part in the spycops inquiry, its chairman announced today.

Sir John Mitting has granted core participant status to two members of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), including Asa Winstanley.

Mr Winstanley is now an investigative reporter at Electronic Intifada.

Late last year he learned that the spycops inquiry had confirmed a man called “Rob Harrison” was a former undercover policeman.

Mr Winstanley recognised the name and realised that he had been befriended by “Harrison” while in the ISM.

The inquiry chairman said that Mr Winstanley has “potentially valuable evidence” to give about the officer’s deployment.

Mr Winstanley believes the officer infiltrated the ISM’s London branch between 2004 and 2007.

The movement became prominent after two of its volunteers, Rachel Corrie and Tom Hurndall, were killed by Israeli forces in 2003.

The ISM activists at the spycops inquiry will be represented by law firm Hodge Jones and Allen and their costs will be covered by the state.
