Political statement adopted by Your Party Cymru members

YOUR PARTY Cymru delegates adopted a founding political statement at its weekend conference in Aberystwyth, defining the party’s values and objectives.

In moving the political statement, the Interim Steering Group’s Martin O’Neill said: “The statement sets out our socialist values that we should all share.”

Mr O’Neill said the statement as amended would then be voted online by all Your Party Cymru members.

Anthony Wedlake from Wrexham said he was a Your Party Cymru councillor on the city’s council, and exhorted delegates to adopt the statement and make a difference in their local communities.

Rhonda Cynon Taf Independent councillor Dan Owen-Jones said: “We have 10 months before next year’s council elections and our branches must start making a difference in their communities if we are to stand any chance of winning seats.”

Gordon Gibson from Swansea said the statement could be summarised as “people, planet, peace” and urged party members to vote for it.

The agreed statement says: “Your Party Cymru is a democratic, member-led socialist party that stands for equality, social justice, peace, and international solidarity.

“Our goal is the transfer of wealth and power, now concentrated in the hands of the few, to the overwhelming majority.

“We reject a capitalist order that produces grotesque inequality at home and abroad. We favour the extension of democracy over the economy, including g the public ownership of key sectors and services.

“Your Party stands for freedom — from poverty, exploitation, and war — and we stand against militarism and for a world free of nuclear weapons.”
