JEREMY CORBYN slammed Sir Kier Starmer on Sunday at the Your Party Cymru conference for the increased levels of inequality he leaves behind.

The Your Party parliamentary leader was speaking at the party’s founding conference in Aberystwyth when he spoke about his successor as Labour Party leader.

“Look at the society that you have in this country, the numbers of foodbanks, and the rising numbers of people in poverty,” he said.

“The financial policies pursued by Reeves and Starmer have meant that the levels of inequality are massive in our society, where 150 billionaires hold 22 per cent of our national wealth.”

Mr Corbyn touched on his successor as Mr Starmer was stepping down as prime minister, with Andy Burnham taking over without an election.

“I was in Parliament last Wednesday with the absurdity of getting a standing ovation from over 300 Labour MPs, when most of them conspired to get rid of him,” he said.

“Burnham becomes Prime Minister with no election, no debate, no policy statements and it’s a travesty of any kind of democratic process.”

The Islington MP told delegates that he had written to Mr Burnham asking him, as soon as he takes over, to end all arms supplies to Israel immediately.

“We are witnessing a genocide and Israel’s ability to do it is with military facilities provided by Britain, along with providing security information.

“We had the 36th national demonstration for Palestine on Saturday, and my message was we will be here for as long as it takes.”

Mr Corbyn also had a word of warning to the new prime minister about water nationalisation, saying the words that Mr Burnham used were making him nervous because he talked about public control.

“The water industry is already supposed to be regulated by the state, so I think we must be very clear that what we need is public ownership of the water industry in its entirety.”

Mr Corbyn welcomed the promise to look at social care, but said: “I’m campaigning for a universal social care system, which provides social care free at a point of need, irrespective of wealth, paid for through taxation.”

He told the Welsh party delegates to choose carefully for the elections they want to fight and prepare the ground well.

“Our function is to build community action, community strength, and community involvement, which eventually then leads to electoral success.”
