Prison staff to be balloted for strike action over pay
Young offenders escorted by staff at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre, Willoughby.

EDUCATION staff at prisons and youth offender institutions across England are set to be balloted for strikes over real terms pay cuts, their union announced today.

About 500 University and College Union (UCU) members at 48 institutions nationwide will soon start voting unless bosses raise wages to help staff meet soaring inflation, the union warned.

The three-week vote is scheduled to begin next Wednesday and run until October 5.
