Rio Rosenberg: ‘I want to reach the top level even more now’
2020 was life-changing for all. Hit with a pandemic, a road of uncertainty laid ahead. It was no different for 18-year-old Crystal Palace under-23 captain Rio Rosenberg. Things soon brightened up after being selected to participate in BT Sport’s Ultimate Goal along with the honour of captaining her team. Now with another national lockdown, grassroots again suffers the brunt of it. Here I caught up with Rosenberg on some of the best parts of 2020 and what next, by Sonia Randev

What made you want to play football?
I have always wanted to be a professional footballer since the age of five. I love all sports but football has always been the sport I could see myself doing well in.

I’m a Manchester United supporter and seeing how well the women’s team is doing and the fact that they along with the men’s team are top of the league makes me happy!

You captain the under-23 Crystal Palace Women’s side. How did that come along?
I had trials in July and was told after a week that I wouldn’t need to come back and do the second lot of trials.
