Defeat on Thursday leaves Great Britain with gargantuan task this weekend

GREAT BRITAIN’S teams face uphill tasks this weekend in the Netherlands, with both the men and women losing in Belgium in the FIH Pro League on Thursday.

The injury-hit Olympic champion women have not been able to count on Rio gold medallists Lily Owsley — so influential when Britain beat Belgium in London two weeks ago — and Susannah Townsend in the Low Countries and went down 4-1 in Antwerp, with Sarah Robertson scoring for GB.

The men then lost 4-2 to the world champions, with Phil Roper and Luke Taylor on the scoresheet for Danny Kerry’s team, who failed to turn around a 4-0 half-time deficit
