Gareth Ellis pleased to have come out of retirement

HULL veteran Gareth Ellis says his early-season comeback was meant to last just three matches but, five months on, he has his sights set on a trip to Wembley.

The 38-year-old former England forward retired at the end of 2017, his last match coming against his old club Leeds in an 18-16 play-off semi-final defeat, but he pulled the boots back on 18 months later in a stop-gap measure designed to offset the loss of Scott Taylor to a three-match suspension.

His return helped galvanise Lee Radford’s team and he has gone on to make 13 appearances, including Sunday’s 26-24 Super League win over the Rhinos at Headingley and a Challenge Cup victory over Castleford that put them on their way to Saturday’s semi-final showdown with Warrington.
