Jimenez the talking point as Wolves v Man Utd goes scoreless

MAN UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Wolves striker Raul Jimenez yesterday amid reports linking him with a possible move to Old Trafford.

Jimenez came on at half-time in the sides’ 0-0 draw in the FA Cup third round at Molineux yesterday.

And the Mexican, who has netted 17 goals in all competitions so far this season, had one of the best chances to break the deadlock with an effort from a tight angle that came off the woodwork.

Marcus Rashford deflected an effort off the crossbar 27 seconds after coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute before Wolves thought they had won the game when Matt Doherty headed home with just under 15 minutes to play. But VAR disallowed the goal as the Irishman had headed the ball onto his own arm before it crossed the line.

Having failed to register a shot on target in a domestic fixture for the first time in five years, the Red Devils need to add additional firepower to their attack during this transfer window having failed to replace Romelu Lukaku who joined Inter Milan in the summer.

“Another good player that we’re being linked with,” said Solskjaer when asked about United’s rumoured pursuit of Jimenez. “It’s loads of players who are being linked with us.

“I thought he came on and did really well today. But I can’t comment on the speculation.”

Jimenez’s current manager Nuno Espirito Santo was also quizzed about United’s interest in his striker.

“It’s the first time I heard it. Ole didn’t mention anything about it,” said the Portuguese.

“The transfer window is open. When it is open, anything can happen. But we as managers need to be ready and prepared. But we are delighted to have Raul.”
