IT WAS unlucky 13 for Brighton stalwart Solly March as he miscued his spot kick to hand Manchester United victory in Sunday’s absorbing FA Cup semi-final.
Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils won through after 120 minutes of intense football failed to produce a goal, but the heartbreaking climax was harsh on the south coast side, who tested United throughout.
March was the only player to miss during the ensuing penalty shoot-out, blazing his effort high and wide; Victor Lindelof slotted home the 14th penalty to seal United’s win.
There will be scant consolation for Brighton, but if Roberto de Zerbi can keep his excellent squad together, the Seagulls could become a genuine long-term force in the Premier League.
This was underlined by the mesmerisingly quick feet of the impish Kaoru Mitoma and a standout performance from 21-year-old Moises Caicedo, whose work as a defensive midfielder patrolling every blade of grass on the energy-snapping Wembley turf, rightly earned him the player of the match award.
United will face neighbours Manchester City in the final on Saturday June 3.
