Men's Football Roy Keane warns former teammate that United players will stab him in the back like they did Jose

ROY KEANE believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as manager of Manchester United will end in the same way to that of his predecessor Jose Mourinho.

‏The former United captain was a television pundit for Wednesday night’s derby at Old Trafford which saw Manchester City regain top spot ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table thanks to second-half goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.

‏Defeat meant that Solskajer’s side had lost seven of their last nine matches in all competitions and following Sunday’s 4-0 hammering away at Everton, the United manger was forced to apologise to fans for his side’s performance.

‏And despite a marginal improvement in United’s performance against City, Keane believes that eventually the players will turn on his former teammate Solskjaer just as they did with Mourinho when things weren’t clicking on the pitch.

‏“He’ll [Solskjaer] be under pressure because they’re not getting results, and particularly the performances,” the Irishman told Sky Sports.

‏“I’m always intrigued when I hear after games when people say we’ll be up for the next game.

‏“You’re supposed to be up for every game. To me, it doesn’t matter if you’re playing for Manchester United or Altrincham, you’ve got to be up for every game of football.

‏“I don’t fall for this carry on that there’s going to be a brilliant reaction from these players.

‏“These are the same players who threw Mourinho under the bus — and they will do exactly the same to Ole.”

‏Although the home side started brightly the gulf in class became evident as the Citizens took a hold of the game, notably when Sane was introduced on 51 minutes for the injured Fernandinho — it gave Pep Guardiola’s side more of a cutting edge.

‏Silva’s left-footed drive on 54 minutes settled the City fans’ nerves before Sane’s powerful drive on 66 minutes doubled his side’s lead.

‏But despite being humbled by their cross city rivals, the Red Devils sit sixth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea who travel to face Solskjaer’s men on Sunday.

‏And the Norwegian knows his side have plenty of work to do, not only if they are to stand any chance of securing Champions League football for next season but also to close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season.

‏He said: “We have to work harder. In the short term we are still in the race for the top four and we know we must deliver a good performance against Chelsea.

‏“But we will have a better attitude than everyone else when we come back in the summer.”
