BOXING: 

ON A night when Deontay Wilder retained his WBC world heavyweight title with a first-round knockout of Dominic Breazeale in New York, Scotland’s Josh Taylor claimed the IBF super lightweight world title in Glasgow with a unanimous points victory over Belarusian Ivan Baranchyk. 

Billy Joe Saunders also secured a unanimous points win against Germany’s Shefat Isufi to gain the WBO super middleweight belt. 

UNITED STATES:

THE Golden State Warriors hold a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Portland Trail Blazers in the best of seven NBA Western Conference finals after they came from behind to win 110-99 win on Sunday. 

Steph Curry led the scoring with 36 points for the Warriors. Milwaukee Bucks take a 2-0 series lead into this morning’s third game of their Eastern Conference finals with the Toronto Raptors. 

SYRIA:

REIGNING champions al-Jaish sealed the Syrian Premier League title by a point after they drew 0-0 with al-Shorta in the Damascus derby and second-placed Tishreen won 2-0 at Aleppo’s al-Ittihad. 

Jabala drew 1-1 with al-Wahda, al-Sahel (Tartus) beat relegated al-Majd 4-1, Wathba (Homs) saw off al-Tallya 4-2 and al-Karama won 3-2 at al-Nawaeir (Hama). 

Bottom club al-Herafyeen’s miserable season ended with a 3-0 loss at Hutteen (Latakia).

IRELAND:

CHAMPIONS Dundalk maintained their impressive recent run of form with a 2-0 win at Cork that keeps them top of the League of Ireland on goal difference, ahead of Shamrock Rovers who edged out bottom of the table UCD 1-0. 

Bohemians drew 1-1 at St Patrick’s, Sean Boyd’s last-minute winner helped Finn Harps to a 3-2 win over Waterford and Derry drew 0-0 at Sligo.
