Walter Tull inducted into National Football Museum Hall of Fame
Walter Tull

WALTER TULL, one of the first black players in English football, was inducted into the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame posthumously today.

Tull was a professional footballer who started out playing for east London amateur side Clapton FC, and was later signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 1909. He was one of the first black players to compete in the top division of the Football League.

Tull was subjected to terrible racist abuse during his football career, which was a likely factor in his move to play for Northampton Town in 1911. He made 111 first-team appearances and scored nine goals for the club.
