Scotland editor's welcome

by Conrad Landin

WELCOME to the inaugural Scottish edition of the Morning Star.

Since I was appointed Scotland editor in March, I’ve worked to build the paper’s profile and value north of the border. We’ve introduced regular coverage of Scottish politics and a new weekly column on all things Caledonian. We’ve expanded our coverage of Scottish cultural events, from gigs in Glasgow to theatre in Pitlochry.

But for a small paper with one edition, it can often be a struggle to give Scottish news — including industrial stories which get little coverage in the rest of the media — the emphasis it deserves.

So starting today with the anti-racism march in Glasgow ahead of St Andrew’s Day, we’ll be producing a separate Scottish edition — with a different front page and other changes inside — to coincide with special events.

As time goes on we hope to do this more regularly. But that depends on your support. So please consider ordering the paper from your local newsagent, or subscribing to our e-edition. And if you can support our fighting fund, every penny counts.

The likely increased reach of these special editions means extra value for Scottish advertisers so if your company, campaign or trade union or is interested, please get in touch with me or email [email protected].

We are a voice for peace and socialism in a media dominated by tax-dodging billionaires. We are also, uniquely, owned by our readers. We are proud to support workers in struggle, and to stand in solidarity with those marching against racism in Glasgow today.

So thank you to all the readers and supporters who made today’s edition possible. Together we can build a fairer Scotland and a fairer world.
