Scottish Labour warns of ‘ticking time bomb’ as cancer cases predicted to rise
SCOTTISH Labour has warned of the “ticking time-bomb” of long cancer treatment waits as cases were projected to rise by almost a quarter by 2040.
Cancer Research UK predicted today that the average number of cases per year will increase from more than 34,500 cases in 2019 to 2021, to over 42,000 in 2038 to 2040.
The party’s health spokeswoman Dame Jackie Baillie said: “Scotland’s cancer treatment waiting times are a ticking time-bomb and one that must be stopped in its tracks.
