THIS month sees the 40th anniversary of the Independent Singles Chart, first published in January 1980.

Punk band Spizzenergi's Where's Captain Kirk? not only topped that inaugural chart but remained at number one for seven weeks, helping to pave the way for alternative music throughout the 1980s and beyond.
