ATHLETICS: The World Championships continue in Budapest this evening with the finals of the men’s triple jump, 110 metres hurdles and discus, where Briton Lawrence Okoye failed to qualify by just 13 centimetres.

Cubans Lazaro Martinez and Cristian Napoles made it to the triple-jump final after Jamaican Jaydon Hibbert set the longest qualifying jump.

The semi-finals and final of the women’s 100 metres also take place today.

CYCLING: The start list for this week’s La Vuelta will include Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard and team-mate Primoz Roglic, the Giro d’Italia winner, as Jumbo-Visma seek to become the first team to win all three grand tours in a year.

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and Gerraint Thomas (Ineos) will be racing against them alongside Jumbo-Visma’s Sepp Kuus, who will be competing in his third consecutive grand tour.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Scunthorpe United have begun to put the brakes on their slide down the football pyramid after a 3-0 win at Rushall Olympic maintained a four-match unbeaten start and kept them top of National League North.

At the other end of the table Southport sit bottom without a point following their 2-0 home defeat by Boston with Darlington just one point better off after drawing 1-1 with Brackley.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Penrith moved two points clear in the NRL after cruising to a 40-14 win at Gold Coast while second-placed Brisbane were not in action.

New Zealand Warriors came from behind to edge Manly 29-22, Melbourne won 38-28 at St George and bottom club Wests squeezed past the Dolphins 24-23.

Cronulla crushed North Queensland 32-12, the Roosters beat Parramatta 34-12, Newcastle overcame South Sydney 29-10 and Canberra saw off Canterbury 36-24 on Sunday.
