Tories accused of treating northerners like ‘second-class citizens’ over HS2
Railway workers and trains at Elizabeth Line depot at Old Oak Common, in west London. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has written to the Prime Minister about the fate of HS2, warning it could end up being a "colossal waste of public money" if the northern leg and the Euston terminus in central London are not completed.

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said abandoning the Manchester link would turn the north-south divide into a chasm.

The link from Birmingham to Leeds was already cancelled two years ago, he pointed out.
