‘Tremendous win’ as striking Royal Fleet Auxiliary seafarers secure 8.26% pay rise

THE RMT union hailed a “tremendous win” for Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) sailors today after securing a 8.26 per cent pay rise following months at the negotiating table.

The civilian crews who support the Royal Navy on deployments staged multiple strikes this year as they rejected “substandard” offers from the Ministry of Defence.

Their new pay offer represents a combined increase of 8.26 per cent, with the equivalent of 13 days extra leave a year and a series of consolidated payments.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “This is a tremendous win that reflects the determination of our RFA members who have taken strike action in order to secure this deal.

“RFA crews carry out vital and often dangerous work in support of the Royal Navy around the world. They deserve fair pay, decent conditions and respect, and this agreement represents a significant step forward for our members.”
