Unite Against Fascism rallying counter-demo in Glasgow

Scottish Defence League plans to demonstrate

TRADE UNIONISTS will front a counter-demo against a far-right rally in Glasgow today.

The Scottish Defence League, a neonazi group which is aligned with the English Defence League, is demonstrating in Scotland’s largest city against the imprisonment of former EDL leader Tommy Robinson over contempt of court.

Unite Against Fascism is calling on supporters to mount an anti-fascist demo in Glasgow’s George Square today. Anti-fascists will congregate from 12pm.

“The scale of the far-right’s turnout and the vile, violent racism informing it must be seen by everyone on the left as an urgent wake-up call,” a UAF statement said.

The counter-demo is likely to include a large contingent from rail union RMT, as a group of its members were violently attacked by Mr Robinson’s thugs in London last weekend.
